Full Round One write up coming this afternoon

WFP

#WFPPlayoff Round One No. 7 Fresno State vs No. 10 Ragin Cajuns

Fresno, CA
on a hazy 44 degree day at Bulldog Stadium

What a tremendous game it was

First Quarter
It was all Bulldogs in the first quarter. The defense mauled and the offense grinded out to a Fresno 3-0 lead behind a 40 yarder from the toe of Colin McGuire

Second Quarter
Here's where the stalemate began to give
- After forcing a a three and out Fresno State marched down the field on the 78 yard drive, taking 6 minutes off the clock, and ending in a 1 yard plunge from Josh Quezada putting Fresno up 10-0
- After another defensive stop, Fresno marches right back down and gets a 35 yarder from McGuire this time around putting the Bulldogs up 13-0 with just over a minute left in the half
- The Ragin Cajuns run hurry up and put themselves in good enough position to close out the half with a 34 yarder from Stephen Brauchle
Halftime: Fresno State 13 - Louisiana Lafayette 3

Third Quarter
This quarter was all Ragin Cajuns
- Louisiana Lafayette fielded the opening kick off of the half and marched 96 yards on a Alonzo Harris sprint right after a muffed kickoff return. The extra point from Brauchle made it Fresno State 13-10
- After stopping the Bulldogs in their own territory, the Ragin Cajuns took over from their own 12 yardline and drove it 88 yards, milking over 7 minutes off he clock. Torrey Pierce scored from 11 yards out on an inside zone left putting the Cajuns up 17-13

Fourth Quarter
Here's where the game got all sorts of fun
After forcing yet another defensive stop, the Ragin Cajuns use the last 4 minutes in the third and 2 minutes in the fourth to carry out a TD drive which ended when Terrence Broadway found Jamal Robinson on a 17 yard post in the middle of the endzone. this put ULL up 24-13
- Fresno State took the next drive to the ULL 45 before forced to punt
- The Ragin Cajuns do absolutely nothing with the next drive and shank the punt right back to Fresno who returns the favor and does absolutely nothing with the next drive
- The Cajuns had everything go right into their favor on the next drive, but are forced to settle for 41 yarder from Brauchle putting The Cajuns up 27-13
- FINALLY THE FRESNO O COMES BACK TO LIFE AND CARR LAUNCHES A 61 YARD STRIKE TO MARCEL JENSEN TO PUT FRESNO ONLY DOWN 27-20 WITH 5 MINUTES TO GO
- ULL goes three and out and punts the ball back to Fresno with only 3:21 to play
- Fresno runs hurry up, drives 54 yards and ties the ballgame at 27 on a Quezada one yard plunge up the middle and McGuire extra point with 1:21 to go
- ULL field the kickoff and then fumbles on the first play of the drive giving it right back to the hot Bulldogs
- The Bulldogs strike from 28 yards out on a pass from Carr to Josh Harper with 13 seconds to go sealing the games fate
FINAL: FRESNO WINS OVER ULL 31-24

A tough way to end the season for the ragin Cajuns

Fresno advances to face Auburn, only Rice vs Bowling Green remians

WFP

#WFPPlayoff Round One No. 6 #UCF vs. No. 11 #Bama

Orlando Florida
Citrus Bowl
We have a our first spouts of precipitation: rain showers, breezy at 61 degrees at kickoff

First Quarter
- Opening Drive: Bama marches down the field only to be stopped at the 20. Bama settles for a 37 yard filed goal from Cade Foster Bama 3-0
- Bama forces a Golden Kinights 3 and out and gets right back to business. This time the drive ends with a 8 yard fade to Amari Cooper from McCarron Bama up 10-0
- The Golden Knights go hurry up and finally get some points on the board, with a 29 yard chip shot field goal from Shawn Moffit still Bama 10-3
- Welp, Saban must have chewed out his offense for not being as dominant, and Bama drives 85 yards (all on the ground), finishing with a Kenyan Drake 9 yard plunge to go up 17-3  at the end of the quarter

Second Quarter
-  Like I said, Saban must have chewed out the whole team, because the Bama defense forces another 3 and out, to which the offense takes full advantage of. The next Bama drive finishes on a 4 yard quick slant to DeAndrew White from McCarron putting the Tide up by three TDs 24-3
- UCF finally finds their run game, that's carried them this season and Storm "Great Name for a Running Back" Johnson find the right pylon on a 10 yard scamper putting the Knights only down two scores 24-10
- Bama goes hurry up the next two drives and gets two scores, starting with a 2 yard plunge from TJ Yeldon and then a 34 yarder from Cade Foster after forcing a Blake Bortles INT in UCF's territory
Bama leads at the half 34-10

Third Quarter
Both teams post drives this quarter but no scores occured. It looked like a wonderful B1G game where all drives ended in punts

Fourth Quarter
Finally scoring happens, a Bama drive ends with a TJ Yeldon 39 yard sprint, putting the Bama starters on the bench for the rest of the game and the game well out of reach Bama 41-10
The Central Knights get two gimme scores as the Bammer nation watches their 2s and 3s get PT

FINAL: BAMA 41 UCF 25

The Numbers:
Yeldon: 189 yards on the ground and two scores
McCarron: 352 yards through the air with a pair of scores
UCF: held to 269 total yards

Central Florida and Bama are up next......

Belk Bowl Preview: Cincinnati Offense Preview

Cincinnati in their opening year with Tommy Tuberville at the helm had a surprisingly successful first season at 9-3. After losing Munchie Legeaux early, Cincinnati was forced to start Brendan Kay, a fifth year senior, and found some success, including a 6 game winning streak. Tommy T has a pretty predictable playcalling formula out of the spread, that loves to get their hands in their playmakers. The offense has been designed to get players in space, loves to get blockers down field off of screen plays and uses the run from the spread to set up the play action pass over the top.

The Backfield
QB - Brendan Kay (#11) - Senior - A fifth year senior who has stepped up big time to fill in for the injured Munchie Legeaux. Kay provides a strong arm to the fifteenth most prolific passing attack in the country, throwing 69% completion for over 3100 yards, for 22 TDs. They like to run him in the red zone as well, having scored half a dozen on the ground. When he has time, like he did during portions of the Louisville game, he can pick you apart. He also likes to dump it to backs out of the backfield. Our Linebackers will have to stay home and make the correct reads in the passing game
RB by committee:
Hosey Williams 5-10 200 lb (#23) Junior - Runs much bigger than his size. He averages close to 6 yards a carry. Leads the committee with the most rushing yards of the bunch. Has been banged up the second half of the season
Ralph Abernathy 5-7 161 (#1) Junior - (theit main guy) Smallish but gets the most touches out of anyone in this offense. Has elite speed and is a big threat in space. Hides very well behind the offensive line. The only threat in the passing game out of the backfield. 1st team all conference
Tion Green 6-0 220 lb (#7) Soph - the Bruiser of the backfield. The most TDs on the ground out of the bunch. He's a strong in between the tackles runner who lays the effin wood. (the second guy currently in the rotation)
Jared Golden - Fullback 6-1 240 (#42) Soph: has a few catches. mainly used as a lead blocker and sealing the edge in the run and max protection game

The Receivers
This section will highlight their passing game which is full of flash fakes and play action passes that are used to create hesitation and do get the front seven to bite. This passing offense has been finely tuned since the likes of Brian Kelly worked there. They're very fluid in their passing routes and carry out their fakes. This passing attack is designed to create confusion and mismatches. It's imperative that all eleven on defense keeps the offense in front of them and does not get sucked into the play fakes.
Starters:
Anthony McClung (#6) 6-0 180, straight burner - the leading receiver for the Bearcats, despite half of the year in the backup role is in my opinion the biggest threat to the Carolina secondary. He reminds me of the Miami receivers who were able to get behind our secondary with ease. 2nd team all conference
Chris Moore (#15) 6-1 190 - has the third most receiving yards on the team.Has played very well down the stretch with big games against Rutgers, Houston and Louisville. Their biggest scoring threat through the air
Shaq Washington (#19) 5-9 175 Has only found the end zone once this year but gets yards up in chunks.
Blake Annen (#86) 6-5 250 TE - Really didn't put much on the board in the second half of the year. Is used in the run game as a lead blocker and backside sealer. 1st team all conference
Backups
Mekale McKay (#2) 6-6 195 - A big bodied big play receiver who averages close to 31 yards a reception. Big scoring threat as well.
Max Morrison (#82) 6-1 175 - had much better numbers at the beginning of the year

The O Line
This group paved the way for over 2000 yards on the ground and close to 3800 yards through the air The group is led by three junior/seniors but have underclassmen who have stepped up in starting roles

Left Tackle - Eric Lefeld (#71) 6-6 310 Junior - 1st team all conference left tackle is a mammoth. Will be a top 10 tackle taken when he decides to head to the pros. He's a stud
Left Guard - Austen Bujnoch (#76) 6-5 290 Senior - Played at Cinci forever.
Center- Deyshawn Bond (#59) Freshman - First year starter who has held his own.
Right Guard - Sam Longo (#60) 6-5 305 - The second team all conference guard mauls in the run game. watch for the Beacats to run right off his block
Right Tackle - Parker Ehringer (#78) 6-7 292 Soph. - Ehringer is a very raw talent who still has alot to work on.

Our defense must zone in on stopping he run first and foremost. Make this offense one dimensional and force them into throws. Cincinnati beat up on inferior squads this year but lost to decent competition (similar to Carolina). I'm gonna watch their game against South Florida tonight, with an sharpened eye on the defense, to see which ways the Tar Heel O can exploit.

enjoy the #goacc bowl tonight with Pitt

A Call to Arms: BEAT MIAMI

Growing up in a Virginia Tech household, I've always had an itch come Saturdays in the fall. From making Pilgrimages to Blacksburg every Saturday with my family, to playing under the lights on Friday Nights for dominant high school program, this only deepened this obsession. When I decided to commit my college life to a basketball rich campus in the summer of 2007, I made a commitment to never lose that football obsession. I've dedicated too many years of my life NOT to carry out this practice of getting too fired up on Fall Saturdays. My "football crazy," as my girlfriend calls it, will never allow me to lose hope or faith in a team. This year is no different. Even after watching Carolina squander away opportunities in person, two Saturdays ago, I haven't given up on what opportunity lies ahead for Larry Fedora's team. I haven't given up on the 120+ individuals that makes up this sleeping giant of a college football program.

In my opinion, there are few sports that you can compare to college football. We, as fans, are limited in the outcome of what we can do to determine the result of the game. We can't make the play calls, we can't throw flags, we can't tackle. We can't make blocks, we can't hit the right gaps, we can't kick field goals. The one thing as fans we can do is be as loud as humanly possible for our team. When Kareem Martin flies of the edge forcing a fumble, when Bryn Renner connects a rainbow to a streaking Quinshad Davis, when Romar Morris breaks a tackle and has nothing but open field, unleash a sound wave the spans the Greater Triangle Area. With our backs completely against the wall it's time to sack up as a fan base and provide relentless support for this team. It's time for everyone to do a lil extra.

First series on offense and defense:  Set the tone. Make sure Miami knows what's gonna hit em' every down on every drive.
Running Backs and Receivers: finish your runs and routes, fight for that extra yard, North and South. Offensive line: fire off the ball, maul with some stank in your ass, and block your tits off.
Front seven: Wrap up, cause havoc, fly to the ball.
DBs: Stuff at the LOS, and lay the wood.
Home crowd: Deafen Miami's offense. Be loud, be proud and stay fired up.

THE NEW SEASON STARTS TONIGHT. GO BEAT MIAMI.

GO HEELS.

#WFPFilmReview #ECU: A Defensive Debacle

After a strong enough defensive performance to win in Atlanta, I sensed that this unit was finally starting to come around. Even as I broke down the ECU squad, I felt despite the talent they had on offense, as well as their defense, I couldn't help but think this would be the game when we all started to put it together. From the first snap, the game played out completely against my thinking. Carolina was straight dominated by the ECU Pirates on both sides of the ball. We were out played, out schemed, out hustled and out coached by an opponent that we dominate year in and year out. The display shown in Kenan (I've watched this game twice in as many days) was not only uninspired, if threw up several red flags:

- The first is was time after time we had defensive players (including some of our best) lining up in the wrong spots as well as completely blowing their assignments. We've approached Week 6 in the season, it's time to wake up and get focused
- The second was effort we played with after a disappointing loss. AJ Blue made it known that their was a lack of focus and preparation from the team. This lack of focus from the coaches and the players was clearly shown in one defining play: The 9 players on defense, in which every UNC exhibited terrible technique

- and then there were ALL OF THE MISSED TACKLES

- and how about these two plays of ECU LOS domination which led to missed tackles

 - and now for the Achilles Heel of our offense: The O Line

I jumped the gun thinking that having a core of  Hurst and Bodine back on the front that they'd provide decent support for the youngin's that were filling the three slots vacated by three current NFL Linemen. I've been promptly reminded how difficult it is to replace 3 stud o linemen from a consistency and cohesiveness standpoint. Look at Bama, they lost a good chunk of their line and have struggled against good defenses because of the cohesiveness lost from the departed. O Line play is determined least by talent, it is always determined by technique and how gel'd the group plays. This front may have talent, but they haven't clicked for an entire quarter this season. If this group cannot pull themselves together, this offense will continue to sputter.

- A very close friend of mine saw a sideline confrontation between our best defender and DC watched in Kenan Saturday after a blown assignment on Carden's thired rushing TD of the day. Essentially the DC chewed this player out and the yelled at each other for a bit. The coordinator then kinda paced around by himself for a drive. If there's mess going around internally, the coaching staff needs to man up and get this fixed. The players in turn need to respect their superiors. I understand this stuff happens in frustrating situations in the heat of battle, but whatever beefs there are in this locker room need to get straightened out. If this bullshit is allowed to ferment it'll get worse before it gets better.

The next two games, more than ever are gut check times. Each member of this program, players and staff need to take a good hard look at themselves in the mirror and begin to restore the honor of what it means to represent this fine university. As a fan I'm sick of watching year after year (cept for a gutted 2010 squad) essentially underachieve and lose games they have no business losing. It's time for for this team, this coaching staff, and this program to sack up.

1.5 tbsp minced garlic
half a yellow onion, diced
1.5 cups of matchstick pepperoni (cut trident sized pieces)

olive oil
salt and pep
Beer (for drankin')

preparation (1 hour)
- about an hour before combine the two types of ground meat (if your butcher hadn't already done it for you) in a mixing bowl and form 4 same sized patties
- lay you patties in wax paper and mash them down to where they're about 1/2 to 2/3 of an inch thick but still keep their figure (you need surface area)
- liberally season both sides with fresh ground pepper and sea salt
- cover the burgers, set on plate and put in the fridge for an hour

cookin' (20-22 minutes)
- warm your skillet or pan to medium heat, then add 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- when the oil is hot throw the chopped up pepperoni and cook for roughly 5 to 6 minutes, stirring frequently
- when done, remove pepperoni bits from pan and set on paper towel lined bowl to sit
- with oil and grease in skillet add your onions and garlic, stir frequently for 5 minutes
- then add your tomatoes and pepperoni back to this mixture and cook for two minutes stirring frequently
- using a slotted spoon remove contents and place in a bowl

NOW TIME FOR THE BURGERS
- if cooking in skillet, cook for 5 minutes on one side and 2 on the other for medium to medium rare, after two minutes spoon out pepperoni/tomato/onion mixture on burgers that want them, keeping some on the side for post cooking and top with a slice of cheese per burger, cover for 2-3 minutes and place on toasted bun
- if cooking on the grill, preheat to medium to medium high heat, same cooking times on each side, and with toppings, toast the buns on the grill right after you finish putting the toppings on the burgers

- slide burgers into their respective buns and add more pepperoni mixture if desired
- feel free to top the burgers with spinach, arugula, roasted red peppers slices and balsamic ketchup(dank)
- you should be about 3-4 beers deep if you started drinking when the roni hit the skillet

I believe this would be a kick ass slider topper for a tailgate

Restored Faith

As y'all prolly noticed, I have been very MIA over the course of the last month and half. With work ratcheting up, less travel time this fall rewarded than originally expected, I have been in very troubling place in my fandom. I've exuded this image of an obsessive of Carolina football (which is real life, ask my roommates), but with the recent developments with work, it hasn't sat well with me that I'll likely only be getting to Chapel Hill once this fall, if I even can make it. I do respect the schedule my work has and the commitment that's required to get the job done correction in real estate development. With construction well underway and the timeline and schedule I'm bound to, I needed a lil motivation to get back to my 3rd year of covering(somewhat) Carolina and the general college football landscape.

That motivation has come over the last week or so. A brief vacation, a pretty awesome gal and some good news outta the Hill didn't hurt:

First came the commitment of Bentley Spain. Hailing from my Alma Mater, Providence High School, Spain is one of the biggest OL recruits recruits in the southeast for 2014, choosing the offer from Carolina over the likes of offers from Clemson, Florida, LSU, Michigan, and Virginia Tech. Kid looks like a stud from the limited film that's out there on him. He's been bit by the injury bug the last couple of years, so I'm hoping this guy can stay healthy for his senior campaign. Welcome to the family Bentley!
http://northcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=78&p=8&c=1&nid=5928519

The second  instance for motivation came yesterday with the commitment of another Providence High School ball player, son of Wake Forest and Carolina Panther great Ricky Proehl, Austin Proehl. Everything I read/watch about this kid is he's a smart football player and has the willingness to contribute wherever he is needed. Austin played a lil QB, Running Back, Receiver, Safety, and Cornerback, plus returned punts and kicks. Kid reminds me of Damon Magazu, former teammate who's started at ECU since he set foot on campus. I like him at A Back, plus seeing some action as what his dad was a great as anyone: a possession receiver. Welcome to the Nation, young man!
http://northcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=78&p=8&c=1&nid=6642587

The third instance, as cheesy as it sounds, it was pretty awesome was getting re-tweeted by Coach Fedora.

Nothing crazy, ground breaking or earth shattering, but hey, who doesn't enjoy getting some love from the Coach I want to succeed more than any other in college football. Thanks for the shout out, Coach!

Life's funny sometimes y'all. Sometimes you're in a pretty dark place with work, your workout regiment, and with your fandom, and the the compilation of a couple days vacation with the family, a growing relationship with a gal you're into, and some good news from Alma Mater can get you right back into the swing of things.

I've got 3 things besides friends and family that'll help me with my next vicious 18-24 months of work: hittin that weight room, cold beer and College Football.

30 days y'all.

LET'S GO.

FOOTBAW IN 75 +1 DAYS

In 75+1 days Fedora will be leading Carolina into the most hostile environment this program has witnessed in decades. Sakerlina, and her fans, who have become a dominant mainstay on the Opening Thursday circuit, will be hungry to showcase what they are calling as the best defensive line in college football. They one of the best coaches of all time in Spurrier and the Gamecock loyalty is proclaiming "this is the year." Carolina comes in as heavy underdogs, a newer face on the Thursday night circuit, with a quick striking offense with a coach on the rise. We're not a big time program playin SEC 'ball, but we have all of the tools necessary to compete at the highest level.

I'll be honest, when this game was first announced, I thought "Shit." I pondered for days: How in the hell are we expected to head into Williams Brice Stadium, on a Thursday night, and show that the ACC can compete? How can we contain Clowney? How can we stop one of the hottest defenses in the country? How can we keep the game close?

When these questions about drove me up a wall, I had to remind myself that, unlike the Boise State's of the world, we're not looking at a one game season. While a win at Sakerlina can put us on the map, making it to Charlotte for the first weekend in December is way more important than what's waiting in Columbia. Running the Coastal has to be goal number one each and every year. Beating the likes of Miami, Virginia Tech, LOLUVA, State, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech and dook to on the way to Charlotte must always be priority number one year in and year out. I buy-in that Fedora preaches this. Get to Charlotte, and we've got a shot to play in the big bowl games. If we don't get to Charlotte, we're looking at nothing better than mid to lower tier bowls.

Starting Monday is the official WFP Countdown to Kickoff. I'm gonna attempt to post and workout each of the next 75ish days so I'm a LEAN(er), MEAN, BETTER VERSED, FIGHTIN MACHINE come August 29th.

TODAY IS SPEED DAY AT THE GYM. MAKE SURE YOU GOTCHA MIND RIGHT FOR SPEED SQUATS, BOX BECNHES AND PLYOS Y'ALL.

All Things UNC 2013 Recruiting Class

With the NCAA sanctions and the Roy Smith screw up we had 19 schollies to dish out this recruiting season. We signed up 17, including the 4 that have already enrolled this January (Francis, Fieulleteau, Prince, and Trubisky).

Here they are (alphabetically):

Mikey Bart - DL - Buford (GA)
A two way player in high school Mikey was also recruited as a tight end. Played baseball on a state championship squad. I haven't seen any film on this guy. I like his size 6-3, 245 and would love to see what he could do on the interior of the defensive line.

Lucas Crowley - Center(The Most Important Player on the Field) - Ponte Vedra (FL) Nease
As a former center, I will be all eyes on this guy as his career pans out at Chapel Hill. Some outlets have this guy as a top 5 center prospect in the class. Also played Left tackle in high school. His size is much greater than mine with his measurables at 6-3  270. In brief clips I've seen on him, he appears to let his size do much of the talking. I need to see more video before I completely trash his pad level. Hope he has a mean streak.

Dajuan Drennon - DE - Erial (NJ) Timber Creek Regional
Completely agree with the coaches about giving this kid a shot at Bandit. Fellow high school teammate Greg Webb also signed with the Carolina Blue and White yesterday. Kid has significant upside and great size 6-4 230. I want to see more film on him.

Jordan Fieulleteau (fee-ALL-toe) - WR - Raleigh (NC) Wakefield
Already enrolled at Carolina. Was a member of the all-state team and seemed to live in the endzone his last two years in high school. Finished with more touchdown catches the last season than anyone else in the country. In my opinion, he needs to put on about 20 lbs, when he measured in at 6-3 200.

Khris Francis - RB - Durham (NC) Hillside
Put up big numbers his last couple of years in high school. Already enrolled at Carolina. Shrine Bowl team member. Good size for a little guy 5-9, 200 according to LF. Will be interesting to watch him battle out with TJ Logan for the 3rd running back spot.

Marquis Hayes - DE/LB - Jacksonville (FL) University Christian
Recruited as a bandit. Great closing speed, first step, and appears to play well in space. Also dabbled a bit on offense as a tight end and played basketball (so he should have decent hands). It'll be interesting to see how much weight our strength and conditioning crew want to put on this kid. He looks like a bean pole as a defensive end coming in at 6-3 220.

Brad Henson - OL - Toms River (NJ) Monsignor Dovovan
Great versatility playing all positions on the offensive line in high school. On film he had the luxury of being bigger than every player he played against by at least 60 lbs. Pad level not great, but that'll fix itself when he get mauled into the backfield a couple of times. Long enough arms to play tackle at this level.

Johnathan "Bug" Howard - WR - Rochelle (GA) Wilcox County
Bug has been called half of the "Twin Towers" by LF. Lots of production and accolades in high school. Apparently he's put on 20 lbs since the beginning of his senior year which puts his at 6-4 195. Appears raw on some of his underneath routes. Dude needs to keep hitting the iron  gym and the grocery store.

Nazair Jones - DL - Roanoke Rapids (NC)
Top 15 player in the state(depending on outlet). Has the talent, size, (6-4 250), and athleticism to play any position in the front seven with the exception of weakside line backer. In the film I've seen, he loafs on plays that don't come his way, which he'll have to fix. Would like to see this kid have the work ethic that Tommy Heffernan has.

Desmond Lawrence - DB - Charlotte Christian
Played on both sides of the ball in high school as a tailback and defensive back. Have reached out to a buddy that played ball with him to see if he's the real deal. Will keep y'all posted.

TJ Logan - RB- Greensboro (NC) Northern Guilford
Chances are you've heard about this kid if you follow North Carolina high school athletics. He rushed for 510 yards in the state title game. I blocked for a running back that rushed for 340 one game and I thought I was gonna die. I can't imagine blocking for 510 yards. Any way TJ Logan puts up highlights and numbers. If he isn't in the two deep, yours truly would like to see him get red shirted. I think he needs to up his 5-10 180 to about 205, much like Gio did. This kid's coming in with a lot of hype. Hope he has the work ethic and attitude to deal with it.

Donnie Miles - S - Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett
Looks like he might be the spark plug you need in a nickel and dime front. Was a very active safety and was considered by all outlets a top 100 player in the state of Georgia which year in and year out is a deep talent pool. I like his size 5-11 200 and also the fact that he has experience on the offensive side of the ball at both running back and receiver. This kid looks like a player.

RJ Prince - OL - Albemarle (NC)
We got a mammoth (6-7 310) Offensive Linemen from just east of Charlotte. Usually I'm not huge on single A products cause they haven't played the likes of Independence, Mallard Creek and Butler year in and year out, but this kid was a monster at the combines. He's already enrolled in school. My advice to him is keep your pad level low, hit that weight room, and get some stink up your ass when you line up, young man.

Ryan Switzer - A Back - Charleston (WV) Washington
Being called the Wes Welker of the class. The 2 time player of the year for the State of West Virginia is headed to Chapel Hill getting into a system where it looks like he'll flourish. A three sport athlete who was on the state champion 4x100 and 4x200 track teams as well as the basketball team to me screams athlete. Now I want him to put on another 20 lbs or so and be able to maintain his speed which he should be able to. I know LF has plans to get this kid out in space, it'll be interesting to see how quickly he can match up with D1 speed and be able to produce.

Mitch Trubisky - QB - Mentor (OH) High
Already enrolled at Carolina, the State of Ohio Mr Football was the most prolific passer in the Greater Cleveland Area. If you look at the kid, you'd think he was a drop back passer but his numbers also indicate that he has some wheels. Kid's also a winner racking up a 30-8 record as a starter. I'm excited to see what this guy does this spring. With Marquise Williams deciding to fail a couple of classes, this kid could see the field in a back up role this year. I hope Mitch is ready to go all out in that weight room. I'm ready to see him listed at 6-3 225 by his sophomore football season.

Brian Walker - DB - Charlotte (NC) Mallard Creek
Kid comes from an emerging power out of the Charlotte area that now is starting to give the likes of Butler High a run at their money. Kid flies around and makes plays. There is no other way to put it. I hope he keeps  his head in the game. He has every opportunity to become a special player.

Greg Webb - DT - Erial (NJ) Timber Creek Regional
Joining high school teammate Dajaun Drennon in this class, I can't wait to watch Greg and RJ Prince go up against each other in Oklahoma Drill. As space eater, it'll be interesting to see if they put this guy on the Syl Williams slim down the second he hops on campus. He needs to get better on his push pull technique, cause he will face a ton of double teams with Pitt joining the Coastal division, UVA adopting a new Offensive Philosophy and VT switching from the Finesse run game to Power.

I will be analyzing these guys on an individual basis in the next week.

The Rankings:

The rankings tell a different story in every outlet:
Scout: 30th overall, 5th in the ACC, 5 four stars, 11 three stars
Rivals: 40th overall, 6th in the ACC, 2 four stars, 15 three stars
ESPN: 20th overall, 4th in the ACC, 11 four stars, 6 three stars.

Personally I don't like that our rankings are all over the board. I wish I could explain how ESPN, Scout and Rivals come up with these rankings, besides the general take the average stars of the players in a class. I haven't ever put great stock in recruiting rankings. I'm a much stronger believer in having the system and in player development than the need to sign ALL OF THE 5 STARS. We didn't haul in a class like Ole Miss, but we certainly looked a lot better than what the folks in West Raleigh reeled in.

A Final Note:

Class of 2013 Signees,

From the second you check in to begin your career as a UNC Football Player, everything you did in high school is irrelevant and does not matter to your coaching staff, nor your teammates. Your ego will have to become diminished, and you will have to earn your spot on the depth chart. You are one of 115-125 young men in a football program at a big school. Some of you are going to have injuries that will plague your career, some of you will not be able to handle the academic workload, some of you will not see the field as much as you want to. It's life. What you can control is how hard you hit the weight room and field, how hard you hit the classroom, and how you treat your peers, teammates, coaches and instructors.  The only name that matters on your uniform ison the front of it. You no longer represent just yourself. You represent your family, your coaches and all that call UNC their Alma Mater. Give it your all and makes us proud.

GO HEELS.

Purple House Weight Loss: Round Two

Because a friend popped a button off his short the other day, my college roommates and I have decided to embark on the great weight loss crusade.Yours truly could afford to get back to game shape, so i decided I'll be documenting my lift sessions to make me sound like the next Tony Horton.

Because I had too many cobwebs Monday morning thanks to the super bowl, I combo'd my Monday and Wednesday lift sessions. Monday is typically my power day and Wednesday is Speed/Balance Day while Friday I typically emphasivefor the glamour muscles (Arms, Core, Legs). All three workout days are always full body. I'm leaning towards getting two a days 4 days a week back in the equation with a hard swim sesh. That won't likely start until next week. I'm hoping to get my yoga going again once or twice a week and I usual hit cardio on Tuesday and Thursday most weeks. I'm also big on supersets and intervals.

What I hammed up from 615-735 this morning:

A Real Tailgate Food and 20+ Ways to Top It

A recent poll found on SB Nation ( http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/1/30/3932074/college-football-food-restaurants) left me at a great distaste for the people like to indulge in some of these chains when attending Church of College Football. (#Vote4Bojangles) I was disgusted to find Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Sonic among several other horrid choices among the favorites for College Football Fans. I found it upon myself to reflect on the wonderful spread of college football chains and foods I have grown up with over the year. Sure Bojangles, Kripsy Kreme, and the mini hamburger joints come to mind, but I kept steering towards the foods sector of the equation. What foods while growing up going to tailgates had to be there. I thought of my Uncle Hughbie's London Broil Sandwiches,  grabbing then dousing a fried chicken thigh in Texas Pete, and polishing off Bucky's deviled eggs. But one single item stood alone at the top, the Country Ham biscuit.

Whether the Ham was cold, grilled, fried, or right off the hock, chances are if you put that slice of heaven between a biscuit, you became one step closer to reaching nirvana.

This thing alone is great in itself

but I've found that like the hamburger, there are countless ways to top it.

Here are a few more than 20 options, all delicious (and basically interchangeable with country ham's child, bacon)

EL CLASSICO - (pictured) HAM, spoon full of drippins from the skillet

THE WISCONSIN - Butter, Double Cheddar, and for full effect, a bratwurst

RED EYE'D - severed open faced with on over easy egg and doused in red eye gravy

BOHAHNGLAYS STYLE - scrambled eggs, american cheese, cajun seasoned fries, doused in texas pete

THE CFO - how my dad enjoys his HB; sliced tomato, light mayo, salt and pepper

L'S FAVE - my mom made this post new years; pimento cheese and red pepper jelly. unbelievable.

WFP SPECIAL - how I prefer my HB; served open face, over easy egg, grilled onion, cheddar, jalapenos + texas pete

THE MENTHOL - named after my fraternity house cook's favorite cigarette and how he ate his HB; butter + molasses

THE RAMBLIN WRECK - honey + butter

THE PORKER - scrambled egg + cheddar + bacon

SAMMY STYLE - just like any ham sandwich should be fixed; lettuce, sliced tomato, cheddar, mayo

THE ANGRY CANADIAN - for hockey games; served open faced smother in maple syrup top + hashbrowns and for full canadian supremacy add cheese curds

THE MARIO - the boot shaped country gets some love; sliced tomato, pesto, provolone

THE JOHN WAYNE - scambled egg, grilled onions and green pepper, jalapenos, double cheddar

CHILD'S PLAY - my favorite growing up, ALL OF THE GRAPE JELLY

THE ENC - pulled pork, coleslaw, pickles

DAN CATHY STYLE - butter and sweet pickles

THE PIG SOUIE - you'll find this at any razorback game; spicy brown mustard and butter (cheese optional)

THE DEVILED EGG - sliced hard boiled eggs, pimento cheese, jalapenos

KENTUCKY STYLE (21 AND OLDER) - shot of bourbon with your ham biscuit as a chaser

FOR DESSERT: ALA MODE - use shortbread for the biscuit, chopped country ham, butter pecan ice cream and maple syrup; YOU'RE WELCOME.

What better way than to celebrate my 192nd post with an homage to the great country ham biscuit.

Post Bowl WFP Top 20 and What's Ahead

This bowl season revealed somethings I didn't expect and somethings I did.

The final poll:

1. BAMA - this shouldn't be up for debate. Their offensive line is as good as any I've seen in College Football. They mauled Notre Dame.
2. UGA - Unreal how this team was 5 yards away from beating Bama
3. Ohio State - Only undefeated remaining, I still believe they'd lose to Bama by double digits
4. A&M - There may not be a hotter team in college football than this bunch, plus they beat Bama in TTown
5. Oregon - I would have loved to see this team play the Tide based on their speed on offense. Their defense however would have gotten curb stomped
6. Sakerlina - This team could be downright scary in 2013
7. Stanford - Some folks will say that ND should be ranked ahead of the Cardinal, and I get that argument  but Stanford's win in Eugene is hard to miss
8. Notre Dame - Give the Irish credit for making it through their regular season schedule undefeated. I argued for months that there are several SEC teams better than the Irish and Monday somewhat confirmed that notion. My boss told me when he saw Ole Miss blast Pitt last weekend, it confirmed to him that ND would get stomped. I didn't listen and I thought ND would cover. Ol' Bob was right.
9. Florida - After demolishing FSU I didn't expect them to get punked in the bowl, but that's why you gotta play every game.  Coach Strong doctored the perfect gameplan, jump on them.
10. FSU - I think Clemson was playing better ball at the end of the year than FSU, but this team gets ranked ahead of them solely on their win against them early in the season.
11. Clemson - Guys I harped on this Clemson team at the beginning of the season and they showed me up. Dabo might have a pretty good thing going in Tiger Town. If Tajh and Nuke come back next year.../faints
12. LSU - Les Miles has not looked too good in the last couple of bowl games
13. K State - Collin Klein didn't have enough magic against Oregon
14. Lousiville - With Bridgewater coming back and Charlie strong at the helm, Louisville could make a run next year
15. Oklahoma - This program is a weird one. A&M pimp slapped this team.
16. Utah State - Talk about a program on the up and up. It'll be interesting to see what they can do next year
17. Northwestern- How bout the Wildcats and their first bowl win  in forever
18. Vandy - James Franklin is a BOSS
19. San Jose St - WHY NOT
20. Nebraska Big Red- Gave UGA more of a fight than I thought. Go Bo.

Carolina - predicted 8 wins back in March. Different route to get there than what happened, but was spot on. As for 2013 the future looks bright if we can fix the problems on defense and get some boys to step up for the vacancies left on the O Line.

Biggest Surprises for 2012
Notre Dame
Clemson, especially the play of Tajh Boyd and their defense towards the end of the year
Northern Illinois making a BCS game
Johnny Football

Biggest Dissapointments for 2012
Southern Cal
Virginia Tech
BCS games. Rose Bowl was the only one that was close.

5 teams that'll be in the thick of it next year
Bama, duh
Stanford
A&M
Oregon
Clemson

5 teams I wouldn't sleep on
Ohio State
Louisville
Sakerlina
UGA
TCU

3 Big Programs I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole next year
Michigan
Texas
Miami

About 230 days till college football season y'all. Enjoy the pros.
