No. 7 #NorthernIllinois vs No 10 #TheSmurfs

Last night, while I slept, this game simulated live from DeKalb Illinois where it was a warm 19 degrees with a brisk wind. These conditions on paper should affect two teams who are used to playing in the frozen tundra. What we got was a look at this years BCS buster vs a BCS buster of the past. What we also got was our first big come from behind win as well as our first Overtime game in the WFPPlayoff.

With just over twelve minute to go it looked like Northern Illinois had a certain victory. They had held a stagnant Boise State team to 119 total yards and a dismal 3 points. Joe Southwick looked miserable taking 4 sacks and tossing three picks through their first 7 drives. He and Pederson needed a little Boise State magic of yesteryear to give the Smurf Kingdom a sniff at winning. The Next 5 possessions sealed the fate of the Northern Illinois Huskies. First Boise State led a 5 minute grueling drive and had Michael Frisina chip a 35 yarder to put them within a touchdown 13-6. After a Northern Illinois 3 and out Boise State had one final 4th quarter drive to tie the ball game. With 2:30 to go and a short field after a shanked punt, Boise State milked the clock. They finally went over the hurdle with a 27 yard touchdown rumble up the middle from sixth-year senior DJ Harper. The story book tale continued after a missed 44 yard field goal from the Huskies in OT. DJ Harper scored from 23 yards out on a jet screen, caping the Smurfs comeback victory 19-13 in Dekalb.

Boise State moves on to face Alabama in TTown up next.

Our final first round game between Tulsa and Wiscy will be played this evening.

Stay tuned.
